UNLV Veterans Alumni Supports School of Medicine Military Medicine Group with Delivering Care Packages

(LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, May 2020) The UNLV Veterans Alumni is giving back to the community by supporting the efforts of the UNLV School of Medicine’s Military Medicine Group. The group of Alumni and medical students are putting together a care package for UMC resident physicians, who are at the front lines of the COVID-19 health services. These resident physicians are working long hours and putting themselves in harms way to ensure that patient needs are delivered. Proper critical care makes a big difference and UMC residents are going above and beyond. It is why the Veterans Alumni collaborated with Office Depot and Black Ridge Luxury to donate healthy snacks for the care packages. Veteran Alumni leaders Aaron Manfredi and Tamia Dow also assisted the Military Medicine Group with packaging and ensured they were presentable for delivery. The care package idea originated from an old tradition of military family members sending their loved ones in the front lines a small piece of home, letting them know that they are appreciated and while not home, not forgotten. Maran Shaker, Army veteran and medical student, helped coordinate and lead the care packages, Caleena Longworth, Air Force Veteran and medical student, also participated, but played a special role as not only a student, but Air National Guard Task Force Medical Officer leading and coordinating efforts to deliver needs to Southern Nevada. All in all, these UNLV Veterans are delivering well needed care packages to a group of special medical residents.
